her prayer

This is the funniest and sweetest thing I heard today. A sweet little 10 yr old girl tells Mr. Adam what she would like to pray for this morning in class.

"her grandma that has cancer"

"and....that my mommy would please buy me a guinea pig!"

close enough

As adults, we mispronounce words all the time. Why correct kids constantly? Especially when it is so cute! My last supervisor used the word "typically" like at least 5 times a day, in meetings, giving direction or just in conversation. But, it always came out as "typTically". I really liked this boss and thought it was funny each time. The "T" right in the middle was very pronounced and usually set off a spray of showers to anyone that was nearby. We quickly learned when to keep our distance! Fellow employees would correct him over and over but he continued with this habit. And probably still does!

Well, Lacey has a few words that are just too cute to correct right now. She talks about the boy next door as our "neighbra" and her friend that comes over to play as our "neighbra". The other cute expression is about her friend named Cierra, which Lacey so sweetly calls "Sarah". Sarah has graciously accepted this new name and smiles at her little friend.

Yesterday evening after work Lacey was telling me about her day at Sarah's house. At some point the girls lovingly put the kitty cat in the bathroom cabinet for unknown reasons. I'm guessing and hoping the adults didn't see it. A little while later they went back to help (torment) the poor cat again and it had vanished. I imagine it had found a good hiding spot from the ornery girls. They searched everywhere but could not find the kitty. Lacey was disappointed and acted sad as she told me the story.

She explained that her and Sarah even went to the neighbra's house to look for the cat.

I just smiled at her sweet innocence and ornery little spirit :)

Father's Day

We spent the afternoon at the pool, just playing and relaxin' on Father's Day. I could stay there all day!
Happy Father's Day to my Dad, my father-inlaw, my brother and my friends!
Pastor spoke today about being a Dad and the responsibility it involves. He said something this morning that I will probably never forget. He was talking about everything we try to teach our kids as they grow. He said... "the only thing we can take to heaven one day...is our kids!" That is the most important thing we can teach them...everything else is just minor in comparison. What an awesome responsibility we have as parents to teach our little ones about Jesus and how he is the only way to heaven!
Lacey is lucky enough to have a Daddy that prays with her and sings Bible songs with her and just adores her. He takes her to church each week and makes sure she knows that Jesus loves her. He is a Godly example to her and she is so blessed to have him as a father.
We Love you Daddy :)

breakfast prescription

Please tell me that someone else heard this story? As I was leaving work this evening, I caught part of a story about Cheerios. I guess there is a big controversy about if the cereal is as healthy for you as it claims to be. On the outside of the box it advertises that it is made from whole grains and helps lower your cholesterol, by cleaning your arteries. It is made to be "heart-healthy". Well, the FDA is reviewing this information and says that if Cheerios is so good for you, as it claims, that you would need a prescription to buy it! The research is on-going.

WHAT??!! Maybe I was just tired...but I'm pretty sure that was the story.

If you seen the show, you are probably laughing. If not, just trust me, it's too funny :)

summertime

Who doesn't love summer? We went to a cook out at a friends' house today. Lacey was SO excited, and anxious to wear her new little bathing suit. This is her first time going swimming this year and she just loved it. We came home this evening and played outside with family and friends. Bikes, jeeps, frisbee, squirt guns, swings, slide, horseshoes, bouncy balls, on and on and on! We finally have to call it a day when the sun starts going down and the mosquitos start biting. I stopped at the greenhouse again today and got a new pink azalea bush that I'm anxious to plant by the house.

It's been a fun summer Saturday :)

thumbs up

Covenant Transport.... I don't know anything about this trucking company but I like them! Every once in awhile (like today) I see this big tractor trailer on my way to work and it makes me smile. The trailer is from Chattanooga TN and we usually meet on the interstate, like within the same 2-3 mile stretch of road! It's funny that I recognize him, amongst all the other big rigs. But...he has this bumper sticker.... proudly displayed across the back of his trailer doors.... that always catches my attention, and I know it's him again. I hope several other people see it everyday too and just maybe.... he might be making a difference... just because of a simple bumper sticker. It reads:

It's not a Choice-
It's a Child.

4 or 14

On my way to work this morning I was thinking about the grown-up conversations I had to have with my little four year old this weekend. Some things you just can't ignore.

As we approached the stop light at Sheetz, I noticed Carson standing there with his sign, asking for money. I just knew that Lacey would ask about this man, standing next to her car window. We've seen him many times before but Lacey was never stopped this close, right next to him. As we pulled away, I had to explain why he was asking people for money and why we chose not to give him any. I told her that he's not really homeless, he just has some problems. I explained that we could pray for him but we weren't giving money to him for beer. I think she was satisfied....at least until we see him again probably.

Divorce is striking close to home once again and our hearts are broken for the family. We explained this situation to our little girl and how things would be different probably. Sadly, she is becoming all too familiar with the word divorce. She asked when me and Daddy would be getting divorced, like everyone else? We explained that we will never divorce and we'll always be together as a family. She has used this word alot this weekend and hopefully the fascination wears off soon. She sympathized with our friends and I thought she was going to cry actually. She has a little heart of gold.

And....on a lighter note......I spent 10 minutes this morning (already running late).....to explain why she is a big girl and must wear more than her pretty little Dora panties to preschool today :)
