one day down

How many days left?? The first day of school has been filled with mixed emotions- excitement and sadness. She was ready though....just like we knew she would be. It was an easy transition and we are grateful for her loving and caring teachers. She looked so cute this morning and I have plenty of pictures to cherish! Her new pink backpack is as big as her almost! We were greeted at the door by her teacher and she quickly found her little cubby. We stashed her belongings and went to see the other kids. She started playing with her best little friend and smiled as Mom took a few more pictures. We hugged a few times and all was well. She will have a great school year. I did witness one poor Mom that was having a little difficulty and it was upsetting the child as well. My heart broke for them. If only we could shelter them forever. I guess we can to a certain degree but I also know the difference between the word shelter and the word smother!

I ran a few errands and enjoyed my morning. I had some free time like this to myself back in February...it's been too long. I found that Walmart is barren at early morning. I grabbed a newspaper and found that special little doll that is waiting for Lacey in her car seat. She got one surprise already this morning, an Archie comic book. Of course, she can't read but she likes the pictures. I gave her a special little card and I thought she was gonna cry- she just loved it! I ran over to see Adam and his friend on the other end of town. I could hardly wait to show them the morning pictures! I visited the farmer's market (first time I think) and bought some homemade apple butter and some fresh corn on the cob. I stopped to chat for awhile with a good friend at her coffee shop. She owns a great little coffee house downtown and it was so fun to see her again.

Just me and my tunes...pounded the pavement at the park for a nice long 3 mile walk. A great way to clear your head and of course to get exercise. I walked off the hot chocolate and cinnabon breakfast plus some! If only every day was this fun! I came home and gave my car a bath and did some work around here. Playing on this computer and just hanging out. I've got dinner started and ready to pick up my little girl from school.

Yeah, I could get used to this kind of day. Annual leave again tomorrow? Tempting!! I'm anxious to hear about Lacey's fun day and head to the park. I can't wait to see her face when she finds her new special baby doll. We have a big giant bag of peanuts to feed the squirrels and enjoy some time after school. Dinner together tonight with Daddy and maybe play outside awhile.

It's been a great day :)

5,700 so far!

I heard about a little girl yesterday, 10 yr old Danielle. She lives in WV and is terminally ill with cancer. She was asked what she would like to have or to do before she passes away, and her response was to receive 1,000 cards before her life was over. That simple statement just blew my mind! Out of everything she could want or do....she simply wants greeting cards to fill her mailbox! She has received 5,700 so far!!

Her family has only asked that the cards are not "get well" cards. They suggested cards like "thinking of you" or for "someone special". Here's her name and address if you'd like to make her smile:

no more change

I'm a true facebook fan now....I sorta forgot about my blog.

I hear this expression all the time at work... "the only thing constant is change."

That about sums it up huh? In a few days, my little one will be starting school. Sorta makes me sick to just think about it. Where did summer go? Where did my little tiny baby go? I am so proud of her though...she's funny, sweet and becoming more independant as she should, I guess. I am about to start a new job.....new unit, coworkers, boss, yadda yadda.

And, then Adam is returning to work full time and possibly a new job in the near future. It's no wonder I have gray/white hairs popping up everywhere! I used to handle change pretty well...but it seems to be getting tougher on the more important life changes. A year from now, or maybe 6 months from now we will be nice and comfortable again and then BAM....change will come once again! It's bittersweet.

It's the weekend....time for fun! We can worry about change on Monday again! I'll be back to work, Adam has a big test, and we have school open house the same day.

The only change right now I'm thinking about is going inside....away from these darn mosquitos and darkness!

she tricked me!

I started to panick as I seen the school phone number appear on my work telephone. I quickly answered and spoke to the director. My little girl was crying and "wanted her mommy." She has been at this school for over a year and this was the very first phone call to come rescue her. I was told she awoke from her nap with a slight fever and complaining she didn't feel good all over. She is just getting over a virus so I figured maybe she was having a relapse or something. I told the school I would be there in 45 minutes, as soon as I could. I just pictured my sweet little girl standing in the teacher's office, hugging her bear and crying for mommy. My heart broke and I couldn't get there fast enough. The commute took even longer than usual as I felt sad and worried. This was totally unusual for Lacey.

I arrived at the school and looked through the glass door. Lacey was smiling as she saw me coming! She didn't look bad at all. I could tell she had been crying but she was fine. She was with her friends and holding her favorite bear. She was excited to see me and to go home early for the day. As we played that evening....she said she was feeling fine and just wanted her mommy. I explained we can't do this all the time, unless she is sick of course. We played Barbies and all was well. She was safe and happy at home and so was I.
