The alarm clock is set for 5:30am each day. The obnoxious loud buzz/ring awakes me from a deep sleep. With one swift careful move, I can slide down the bed and reach the clock with an extended arm. I slap the snooze button and slide back onto the bed. 8 more minutes of sleep! It's not really sleep so I'm not even sure why I can't break this habit. I think about the day to come or the day that just past. Sometimes I just try to figure out which day of the week it is. Last weekend I got up, actually got up out of bed, and it was Saturday! Adam went hunting and me and Lacey drifted back to dreamland.
After I hit the snooze my mind starts racing most mornings. Again, why even hit the snooze button if I'm going to fall back to sleep after 6-7 minutes and then it goes off again in 1 minute?? If I continue this pattern 5 times in a row, I can "sleep" an extra 40 minutes! I'm amazed that I can do math at this early hour! So....40 minutes later, I take a quick shower and race out the door. Breakfast on the go and damp hair that will be dry before I reach work. The early morning adrenaline rush is both frustrating and challenging! I make a promise to myself to do better tomorrow. I used to be disciplined once upon a time. And now the daylight comes even later which makes the dark mornings seem even more unnatural. Maybe I should go back to night force!!?? Who shaves their legs at 5:45am anyways?? What's for breakfast? What to wear? Pack the lunch. Take care of puppies. Gotta be quiet so I don't wake the family until school time. Too many obstacles- just go back to bed! Slam the snooze just one more time! Or better yet- completely turn the clock off.
Bad habits are hard to break.

virus
As a family, we share everything....even viruses! Thank goodness Lacey is much better today. I hate to see her so sick and miserable.
My sweet Mom made dinner for us tonite which was so thoughtful and yummy. Pot roast with potatoes, carrots, green beans and rolls. Mom always makes ya feel better.
Down and out for a couple days....back to work and school tomorrow probably.

four
Four years ago today our adoption was finalized! I remember how Lacey woke super early around 6am that special morning. My eight month old daughter was wide awake and all smiles. I placed her on the couch and sang "You are my Sunshine" as we anxiously prepared for court. I dressed her in a beautiful warm ivory pleated skirt and tights with a little matching sweater. Our close friends Mike and Jessi arrived at the house, carrying surprise gifts for us. A Precious Moments figurine still sits in Lacey's bedroom and a handmade wall photo frame hangs in my bedroom by the desk. We followed my parents' car and headed downtown. A little parade on the way to celebrate! We held the little wiggle worm in court and attempted to keep her quiet. I remember how she pounded on the table with her little fists and yawned a few times, completely unaware of the court proceedings. I think she had hiccups too, which made us laugh!
As the lawyers and judge discussed things and questioned us, we paused once in awhile to laugh at the sweet, happy baby. It was a very special day but at the same time it was just a legality, a formal requirement, just another step in the process. We had undescribable peace for about 5 months since we met the birthmother so the court hearing was nothing to be nervous about, as alot of people expected. We glanced through the scrapbook last night that holds the wonderful photos from that day. One of my favorites is a picture of us coming out of the courthouse and down the front steps, all smiles! We all had breakfast together at a little restaurant that morning. A breakfast celebration! Special friends and special family with us for the event. I remember telling my Dad and Mom thanks for coming with us and they said "we wouldn't miss it!" My heart was overflowing with joy!
After breakfast we headed to the mall to pick up a few things for our weekend trip. We retreated to a mountain cabin for a few days, just the three of us! And 2 puppies of course! My memory fails me alot for some reason, but I can remember this special day in great detail.

faith
My heart broke for a friend today that lost his Dad. I watched his Mom as a heartbroken widow with a face full of anguish and pain. Not too many words can be spoken.
The minister did a wonderful job though, telling about the man that is now with his Savior and Lord. Jim was a Christian man that told others about Jesus and wanted everyone to be saved and on their way to heaven. The gospel message was shared today and it surely had an effect on the family and friends in their time of sorrow. Their hope is in Jesus and that he is perfect now, in heaven.
As we stood at the gravesite, the minister began reciting the Lord's Prayer and the family and friends joined in saying this comforting prayer. I was amazed to hear my little 4 yr old saying some of the words. She must have learned it at Sunday School or day care. Unfortunately, I can't take credit but I feel proud that we must be doing something right. We have an awesome responsibility to teach these little ones about Jesus.
She told me once today that she was really sad that our friends' daddy died. But she also knows about heaven and the promises in the Bible. She is compassionate and I hope she never loses that sweet heart for others.
Have a great week :) It's jam packed and full for us already. We love ya'll.
